Some fashion accessories are less suited to pandemics than others
They might have looked like perfect wardrobe accessories when we saw them on the catwalk earlier this year. And yet, these accessory trends for the Fall / Winter 2020 season could well go by the wayside because of the health crisis.
Between wearing a mask and changing behavior, some pieces seem obsolete even before reaching the shelves of the biggest brands. This is particularly the case with trendy jewelry and the balaclava, which the mask will totally eclipse.
See you soon statement jewelry
Have you tried wearing earrings since life with a mask? Between the pendants that get tangled in the elastic and the hoops that collapse under the weight of the mask, the earrings aren’t designed for a health crisis (unless you’re wearing them to dress up your Zoom look).
So what about the oversized and eye-catching jewelry that the designers exhibited during the Fall / Winter 2020 fashion shows?
It’s hard to imagine wearing earrings – studs, hoops, dangling earrings and clips – in XXL version when wearing a mask is mandatory in public places, indoors and outdoors.
As much to face the facts, the trend is a non-starter. But fans of trendy jewelry shouldn’t worry too much – there will always be the “shiny gold chain” type necklaces that should have some play.
Goodbye hooded styles
But wearing a mask doesn’t mean all bad news when it comes to fashion – take the balaclava, for example, which the mask relegates to the rank of obsolete. Where he should actually stay.
Last February, the catwalks had put back on the front of the stage this “ugly” accessory – that the under 20s probably do not know (fortunately) -. Total panic erupted among the fashion crowd.

Were they really going to wear a hood to accessorize their sheer blouse or their all-leather jumpsuit? And in fact, no one has the answer and now we’ll never know, because masks and balaclavas definitely don’t make a good pair.
Can you imagine the logistics and even more complicated, can you imagine the final look? Another trend that seems to have stopped right from the start.
If gloves, both long and short, have also invaded the catwalks during the last parades, we must not forget that this is not only an aesthetic accessory. They are also practical, even necessary in some countries in winter.
However, while it is already complicated to make gloves and smartphones at the same time, wearing masks adds an extra layer of complication to gloves. Why? Because you have to be careful, even delicate, when removing a mask, which is practically impossible with gloves.

And those who think that these accessories could increase protection against the coronavirus, and thus facilitate their daily life, think again. At the start of the health crisis, the WHO warned the public that regular hand washing is more protective than wearing rubber gloves.
