I haven’t really thought about it before, but it makes perfect sense that the footwear industry has been directly impacted by the pandemic. With people confined to their homes, the need for a good pair of shoes has dropped.
But now that we’re heading back out into the world, our shoe cabinet needs an update too. Luckily for us, Malaysia is home to many local shoe brands, and I’m not just talking about those from Jimmy Choo, Christy Ng or Bonia. Here are some other local names in the footwear industry that offer a variety of styles and comfort for women.
With a more feminine and delicate style, My Ballerine offers flats, sandals, heels, sneakers, and more. The simple, elegant designs have earned the brand a sizable following online, and it’s even collaborated with big names like Disney and Mattel to release one-of-a-kind collections.

Delivery time: Orders are processed within three business days. Deliveries to major cities take two to four days, while other areas may require four to six days.
This Kuala Lumpur-based brand has been in the footwear business for over 40 years. Many of Larrie’s shoes feature soft, cushioned insoles for added comfort. From flats and sneakers to wedges and heels, Larrie covers a wide range of styles to suit various preferences.

Founded in 2002, Amori is a shoe brand that proudly embraces current fashion trends while continuing to satisfy those who love classic designs. The boldest products include sneakers (those that look like socks), although classic, casual pumps and sandals are also available.

Qaysut is a line of shoes under the Qaysaa brand, which focuses on clothing for modern Muslim women. The shoe collection is minimal and comes in a range of trendy hues such as mustard, dusty green, ash blue, and more.

According to its website, the Machino team spent 180 days of R&D to design the “most comfortable shoes possible”. Machino features lots of heels, which are known to be uncomfortable after prolonged wear, but the brand’s insole sponges are supposed to help provide support.
Machino offers shoes with unique Malaysian-inspired designs as well as simple, everyday selections. Most of his shoes are made to order.

Describing itself as a brand of “comfortable shoes for cool Hijabis”, Ijmal sells flats and sandals in different earthy colors. According to Facebook, Ijmal’s shoes are designed for prolonged walking and standing, so they should be quite comfortable.

Madre, which means “mother” in Spanish, was founded in 2013 with a focus on stylish and comfortable footwear. The brand offers heels, wedges, flats and sandals in a wide assortment of styles and colors.

Originally a brand that marketed and supplied shoes to local retailers and distributors, Lyden has since decided to create his own brand of shoes. According to her website, Lyden believes that all women deserve a valuable pair of black shoes, like the ones from Lyden that feature cushioned insoles.

Founded in 2012, this proudly Malaysian brand offers stylish, locally handcrafted footwear. Nelissa Hilman, founder of the eponymous brand, was a chemical engineer before embarking on shoemaking.
