Direct-selling fashion startup Peach Inc., of Waltham, MA, announces an exciting program to promote small, emerging fashion accessory businesses founded by women.
There is a huge barrier that women entrepreneurs face. Unfortunately, women get considerably less venture capital to expand or start businesses than men. According to a 2014 study by Babson College, “85% of all venture-backed companies do not have women on the management team. Importantly, only 2.7% of venture-backed companies had a female CEO. This puts them at a considerable disadvantage.
Peach, a female-led apparel startup that understands the challenges first-hand, has designed a program to help female fashion entrepreneurs close the opportunity gap.
Each season, Peach searches for stylish and emerging fashion and fitness accessory brands to sell with their contemporary activewear for women. In 2017, Peach piloted a program to buy, sell and promote these up-and-coming fashion accessory companies through their nationwide network of personal stylists, on their website and on social media.
The direct sales model allows stylists to tell the stories of entrepreneurs and sell accessories directly to their customers, creating a more engaging experience than more passive retail or e-commerce. Customers appreciate the personal shopping experience of direct selling and love discovering hot fashion and fitness accessory brands that haven’t yet been known. Entrepreneurs are exposed directly to a large new audience.
Peach is now opening the process for founders of small businesses or startup fashion accessories or fitness businesses to apply directly to be a featured entrepreneur. They can make the case for that awesome free exposure and large bulk orders…exactly what these brands need to grow.
The program aims to give these women-founded businesses a powerful platform for growth. “A big part of Peach’s corporate mission,” says Janet Kraus, CEO of Peach, “is to support women’s entrepreneurship. Women get significantly less early-stage venture capital than men. featured entrepreneur is a unique way for us to lead by example on our mission. The program has been a resounding success, many articles have become our bestsellers. Now we are excited to make it easy for these founders to apply directly for this huge opportunity.
Since January 2017, Peach has been offering accessories from several exciting brands to sell alongside their active-inspired clothing. Past entrepreneurs include Michelle Possin and Colette Feldman of By Lilla. Their unique product is stackable, wristbands that double as hair ties. Michelle had this to say about the program: “As entrepreneurs we are constantly struggling to break through the glass ceiling and Peach has been a great stepping stone in the effort…the results have far exceeded our expectations.”
